HEARING IS BELIEVING!!
In the first minute of listening to the HRS-130 while vacationing in Germany, I knew this speaker was presenting something very unique and special to my ears. A large portion of the secret sauce to ALL of the German Physiks loudspeaker models’ success is the near full frequency carbon fiber driver called DDD. This driver range is approximately 200Hz to 24K Hz radiating out in a 360 degree pattern with no mid-band crossover. A violin played on a stage radiates out in every direction…hmm. Exactly. This cone shaped driver is a low moving mass driver resulting in an amazingly natural sound which is just damn believable. The number of industry awards German Physiks has amassed is no small thing.

My Introduction to GP Speakers
I had not planned this meeting. I was sitting in the airport in Spain looking for 2CH shops to visit when we arrived in Germany. I received a quick reply from one of my emails from Holger Muller who was willing to meet me on a Saturday. I was excited upon arrival, but after 2 hours of experiencing the HRS-130, I was blown away. My wife even said these speakers sounded better than mine. Yes, that hurt a tad. My mind was racing as I thanked Holger for his time. I wanted to hear some of the other models in the line up. I flew to Dallas TX and was treated to 10+ hours of hearing these amazing speakers with my new friend Basile of Locrian-Audio who is the distributor for GP in America. I drank the Kool-Aid as they say and signed up to be a dealer!
Omnidirectional Speakers
I have always been a fan of Martin Logan electrostatic speakers which seemed more life-like than the traditional box speaker. Am I against traditional cone & dome box speakers? Not at all! I have several pairs that I will never part with! (Especially when I want to rock out!!) But for my over-all listening tastes, GP and their omnidirectional flavor is simply amazing. Another interesting note about GP speakers is they can be placed in a living room full of glass, no acoustical treatment of any kind, and fill the space with music that is delightful. My wife and I have one corner of the living room that the chairs face outward over-looking the water-falls below. This would have typically been a terrible place to listen to music, but with the GP speakers, it sounded as if the band was playing between the speakers! Yes, even in the corners of the room, these speakers sound great.
Why German Physiks Speakers?
Is this the right speaker for your listening room? That all depends on your taste. I will give you the pro’s and the one con that I have about these speakers and let you decide. TO FULLY APPRIATE THESE SPEAKERS, THEY NEED A TEST DRIVE! I invite you to North GA to take a test drive in my listening lab! The price of your travel will be deducted from a speaker purchase!
I’ve been in this Hi-Fi game since I was 14 years young. I’ve listened to 1000’s of 2CH rooms over the years, they “present” the music in such an natural way. I can’t name drop, but there are quite a few well-known musicians who now own GP speakers. They recognize and appreciate the life-like character of these speakers.
In summary, for my entire audio career, I was locked in the sweet spot in order to fully enjoy the music. Not anymore!

German Physiks Speakers FAQs
A high-current amp with 200 plus watts would be my suggestion. I ended up with 350 watts with a tube front end. Tubes are optional and depend on your taste. I have a strong solid state amp to compare with tubes when you visit.
For new speakers, it will depend on the finish. Basic colors are in stock and only require ship time from Germany. Pick a finish and I will get a factory update on stock.
Yes! About 300 hours is what GP recommends. This is not your average driver! The DDD produces everything above 200 Hz! After 100 hours you will not notice much difference.
Speaker selection should be based on room size to get maximum benefit. However, I placed the HRS-130’s in a huge room and still enjoyed them. It’s nice that you get the same great sound from the DDD drivers at the entry level and every single one of the larger speakers in the line. A rarity in this industry!
Good question! Yes, there is much to be gained from finding out where your speakers sound best in the room. Every seat in your room will sound slightly different in the presentation, but every seat will sound great! When you want to get every last bit of soundstage, the sweet spot will yield you amazing results.
They can, but every foot you can bring them away from the wall will give you better sound. GP’s manual recommends 3.3 feet at a minimum to avoid early reflections that can degrade the sound. If you have a dedicated room and can afford the space, 5-6 feet away from the back wall makes these GP come alive!
